It is readily apparent why the lovely Enchanted Forest theme park in Salem, Oregon is highly rated for families. On a recent trip to the Portland area, my family was invited to visit this theme park, and I would like to tell you all about my experience to help you plan your day when you are able to get over there.
We arrived in the parking lot before opening at 10am and got a front row spot. The free parking was such a bonus, as well as the ease of getting to the location, as it is right off the interstate. We splurged and got the unlimited ride wristbands for all of us. If you ride at least 6 rides, it pays for itself. Upon entering the park, we took a map and headed straight for the Big Timber Log Ride. Complimentary ponchos are available for the thrilling ride through the shaded woods, but we went without and enjoyed getting just a little wet.
Snow White was walking through the park and we had the pleasure of meeting her (without a line)! We also loved the exciting Ice Mountain Bobsled Roller Coaster, and it was great for the whole family. Children story themes were along an escalated path with enchanted homes and children's built in slides. My 7 year old enjoyed seeing the 7 dwarfs home and peeking in their second story windows at their little beds.
Worth riding multiple times: bumper cars, bumper boats (for the littles), Frog Hopper, Ice Mountain Bobslead Roller Coaster and the Big Timber Log Ride.
This is easily the best place to take kids in the Salem, Oregon area!
According to my 7 year old, "this is so fun!" My 12 year old had no problems being entertained either. He loved being our tour guide (directing us with the park map). He recommends going straight to the Ice Mountain Bobsled Roller Coaster and the Big Timber Log Ride first to avoid lines.
Everywhere we turned, there were convenient restrooms and snack stands, as well as great lunch options. My personal favorite was the coffee house. It helped me get through the second half of the day with high energy kids. I also loved the 12 strategically placed parent benches in the kiddie ride thoroughfare.
We also saw fun shows. The Possibly Irish group was enjoyable, as well as the Hansel & Gretel comedy show. Make sure to check the schedules so that you plan accordingly. The Fantasy Water Light Show, with music and choreography by Susan Vaslev, daughter of park creator, repeats all day, so no worries with timing for that one. It was a great break to watch this for a bit.
We finished everything on our checklist by 2pm, leaving us time for lunch and extra ride time for a few more hours! Even on a busy summer day with a couple of camp field trips, it was a safe and enjoyable visit. The employees were super helpful moving the ride lines along with a cheerful disposition.
We not only opened the park, but we closed it as well. Such a fantastic day! If you're looking for good old fashioned fun in the Salem, Oregon area, Enchanted Forest is for you!
