Massachusetts Fish for Free Days: Fun for the Whole Family

2024

By Noelle Monaghan - Worcester Macaroni KID Publisher March 19, 2024

Massachusetts' fish for free days allow residents and non-residents to legally fish on Massachusetts waterways with no fishing license required. Although MassWildlife offices and hatcheries are closed to the public until further notice, fishing is open and spring trout stocking will continue.  Fishing or hunting on your own or with a family member is a perfect way to enjoy a day outside. Remember to practice social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from other people while participating in outdoor activities.

This year you can enjoy freshwater fish for free days on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday June 2.

All other fishing regulations still apply. Go to Mass.gov/Trout to see a map of stocked locations.

Don't have a pole? Don't worry! There is a way to "check out" instructional handouts, rods, reels and a tackle box.

The fishing gear loaner program, through Massachusetts Wildlife, is designed to make it easy for anyone to access fishing tackle. Email the program coordinator for more information about the loaner program or to volunteer.
