Worcester Festival of Lights 2020 – Installations

December 23, 2020

From December 14, 2020 through February 28, 2021, light sculptures and installations will be on view in Worcester’s Downtown and Main South neighborhoods. Displays will be illuminated after sundown each evening.

Main South installations will feature light sculptures by local artists at key nodes and participating businesses. Downtown lighting elements will include a crescendo of multicolored snowflakes on Mercantile Center, as well as LED snowflakes in windows of businesses, crafted by Technocopia member Carlos Torres. Creative Hub Worcester will install a large, backlit mural on the windows of 554 Main St. On the Worcester Common, Tower Hill Botanic Garden has created an illuminated rainbow tunnel over 200 feet long, which celebrates Worcester’s inclusivity and will illuminate the Common in conjunction with 3D geometric light sculptures by Ivy Orth, head designer of LunoSol.

Creative Hub Worcester and Main South Community Development Corporation will host a Call for Artists for installations along Main Street in Main South. The call will take place in December for activation in January and February.

Remember to enjoy these displays safely, including wearing a mask when in public, clean your hands and devices frequently, and maintain physical distance from others when possible.

The Festival of Lights 2020 light installation campaign is funded in part by the City of Worcester, Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District, MassDevelopment’s Transformative Development Initiative, Mercantile Center, and Winter Places by Bench Consulting, with funding provided by the Barr Foundation.

Festival of Lights 2020 is organized in partnership with the Creative Hub Worcester, MainIDEA, Main South Community Development Corporation, Technocopia, and Tower Hill Botanic Garden.
