We do not Teach Gymnastics Lessons, We Teach Life Lessons

October 17, 2019

Initially, moms and dads come to us looking for a program that teaches their children how to do gymnastics. After a session or two, they realize we teach much more than that. We like to think of our students as a part of our MGC family where we teach them how to overcome obstacles, fears, and falls.  Throughout their childhood all kids will encounter difficulties that require them to get up, dust off their shoes and keep going. Sometimes, it requires a second family to get through the rough spots, finally succeeding in this thing we call LIFE. Recently, one of our longtime gymnasts wrote a college essay to Brown University which exemplifies what we teach at MGC.

My Happy Place

For as long as I can remember, gymnastics has been an influential aspect in my life.  Since I was four years old, I have had the privilege of calling Massachusetts Gymnastics Center my second home. Holding such a meaningful place in my heart, nothing else compared to my time at the gym and it quickly became my happy place. Every time I set foot into the gym, I was immediately surrounded by supportive coaches and some of the best friends I will ever have. My coach has raised me like her own daughter, and quickly became a prominent mother figure in my life. Becoming more than just a sport, gymnastics has taught me discipline and given me the courage to believe that I have the power to sore to unimaginable heights. Through years of physically taxing practices, I have witnessed first-hand what hard work and dedication can achieve. Every time I reached a goal, I would dream up an even bigger goal until I was soon performing seemingly impossible skills. My character has been enhanced by my coaches and teammates, and I now possess the self confidence needed to defeat any obstacle in my path. Gymnastics bolstered my faith in myself, and I now know that I can achieve anything that I set my mind to. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without gymnastics and all the priceless values the sport has instilled within me.
